The walk this summer leaves from the Main Wharf, Goolwa on Sunday, at 10am and the group is transferred, via Port Elliot and Victor Harbor to Parsons Point, a rocky headland on the south coast. Great views to the east, back to Newland Head Conservation Park and to the west, the steep coastal headland stretches out towards Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island. The Pages Islands can be seen and walkers hear the Ngarrindjeri story of Ngurunderi and his exploits as he moved along the rivers and coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsula in the time of creation. |

Walkers access Waitpinga Beach. It is opportune to get your boots off and feel the sand between your toes. From the beach, regain the Heysen Trail, heading towards Newland Head. Dolphins are often seen off the beach and the area is a popular spot for surf fisherman and experienced long board surfers. A beach shower at Waitpinga will help remove sand from your feet before replacing your boots. |

Leaving the beach, the trail crosses the coastal dune system. Native flora provides opportunities to talk of bush foods and walkers have their first opportunity to identify animal tracks in the sand. The trail passes the Waitpinga Beach campground and commences a long, gentle climb to Newland Head. Stop at the lookout for sweeping vistas back towards Kangaroo Island. There are eyes watching the walkers: Eastern Grey kangaroos, Sleepy lizards, parrots, rosellas, pigeons and many other woodland birds peer at the intruders as progress is made towards Ridgeway Hill, the highest point on the walk. |

It is a downhill, 15 minute walk from here to the cliff tops. Almost sheer cliffs fall 250 metres to the Southern Ocean below. |

The walk returns back on itself and lunch is prepared on a headland overlooking the Southern Ocean swells crashing against the broken cliffs far below. Again, good photographic opportunities. A late, leisurely lunch is had on the cliff tops before heading back to the Waitpinga Beach campground for our rendezvous and return to Goolwa. |
